How to protect your personal information

The privacy of your personal information is very important. Our Privacy Policy details the way we collect, store and disclose your personal information. You can also play an important role in helping to protect your privacy by taking the following steps to keep your financial information secure.

On the internet and email

• Install anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware and firewall products and ensure they are up to date
• Exercise good password management, keep passwords a secret and change them regularly
• Keep account numbers, policy numbers, passwords and PINs confidential

At home

• Check that your post is secure and make sure you have received all expected bills and statements, such as superannuation statements and tax returns (if you don’t receive them, contact the organisation that should have sent them)
• Check your statements and bills to ensure you’ve authorised each transaction
• Make sure all your personal information is securely stored at home
• Don’t leave documents that contain your personal details or financial information lying around (eg in the car glove box)
• Destroy paper copies of financial information you no longer require by shredding or cutting them up before throwing them away
• If you are moving house, make arrangements for mail to be sent to your new address

At all times

• Keep account numbers, policy numbers, passwords and PINs confidential
• Be extra vigilant with important documents such as your passport, driver’s licence, birth certificate and any photo identification so they cannot be used by other people
• Be cautious if you receive an unsolicited phone call or email from an organisation asking for your personal information
• In public places such as airports, hotels and internet cafes, be particularly careful to keep your personal information confidential and make sure items such as your wallet, purse, phone, laptop and bags are secure

Following these steps will help make it more difficult for unauthorised people to access and use your personal information.
